Once again, you are wrong. I have spent a lot of time in the office of these surgeons. From my surgery, as well as being there for the surgery of family and friends I referred. The same thing was said about your kind of surgery. A large percentage of cases they do are botched surgery done your way. I know this to be a fact because I talked to many patients who had one foot done your way (which the doctors had to repair)and the other foot done with minimally invasive percutaneous technique. All of us couldn't believe the great difference in the amount of post operative pain, time off from work, and most important of all.. results. Each and every one of us, our feet felt and looked great with no ugly scars.
They are experienced surgeons with over 25 years of doing surgery. They are board certified by several boards. They have found that doctors like you are too unwilling to do these techniques because of lack of training and understanding of the benefits of this type of surgery over the traditional kind. All over, doctors in every field are moving away from traditional surgery and going minimally invasive. Why is podiatry the only field left out?
All I know is from my experiences with these doctors. They have a 100% surgical practice (no cutting toe nails)and are booked with surgeries nine months in advance with people begging for ealier appointments.
I had really bad feet but there are others whose feet were much worse than mine whose doctors gave them nightmare scenarios about the kind of surgery they would have to have before they could walk without pain. Some still had it done anyway. They were right, having it done your way was a nightmare. Then they came to have the other foot done with minimally invasive percutaneous surgery and the nightmare was over.
I suggest you go back and learn these techniques so you can better serve your patients. You appear to be one of those podiatrists who feel good only when you are in a hospital walking around in gowns and gloves with your arms up in the air saying "dont touch me, I'm sterile". You cant practice like that, so myopic. You are not doing justice to your patients. Before you belittle something you know obviously so little about, I suggest you find some doctor who is doing minimally invasive percutaneous foot sugery who is available to teach you these techniques. Spend some time with him and LEARN.
