Having the ability to use both tradiional and MIS surgical procedures I will give you my experience. Both are indicated techniques depending on the patient, type of foot deformity and needs of the specifice patients. MIS can be used to correct bunion deformities at any level of deformity if so desired.
Now getting back to the question. Should you correct both feet at the same time. I am in agreement that this depends on the level and type of bunion deformity. If you are going to use an MIS head osteotomy for correction then only one foot at a time. Most MIS metatarsal head osteotomies are done without any internal type of fixation. Doing both feet will increase the chance of improper healing of the bone in the correct position.
Experience shows that the bunion surgical procedures need to be chosen to correc the bunion deformity at all levels so help ensure long term relief and correctoin.
The rules of surgery never change however the techniques to achieve them can with time
