The callus on my heel is the size of a dime and the center part, which is white, is about the size of an eraser head. When I had the surgery, I was orginally diagnosed as having a wart. I am not sure of the specifics, all I know is the doctor was suppose to remove it. It was an outpatient surgery done in a hospital under general anesthesia. By the time I returned for a follow-up, the callus had returned. After that, the doctor instructed me to return every 2-3 months and he would "shave down" the skin around the callus and pick the callus (center) and wrap my heel. This would make my heel feel good for about 2 weeks, then the skin would start to grow again. It felt like a little pebble in my heel when the skin grows too much. This callus is embedded. It's not sitting on top of my heel. The way the Podiatrist I saw this year was explaining to me, the "spray" that he was using on my heel after he shaved down the skin and picked the center, was to "draw" the callus on top. I was thinking it was the same concept as the over-the-counter corn removers. I was never given a definite reason as to why this callus exists other than poor fitting footwear.
