About five years ago, I had surgery on both feet to correct heel spurs. The arthroscopic procedure involved severing the tendon that runs along the bottom of the foot, connecting the heel and ball of the foot. The relief of the heel spur pain was instantaneous. Now, however, I have developed tendonitis along the top of my foot due to the fact that I have no arch. I cannot walk or stand for any length of time (15 - 20 minutes max.), and I have a lot of pain in my foot when I stand after sitting. (For some reason this has only affected one foot, not the other.) I also have ankle and knee pain - a result of my extremely flat feet. Unfortunately, my doctor has told me that there is nothing they can do for these problems. Orthotics actually seem to aggravate the foot joint and make the pain worse! As someone who has been there, done that, I would try the cortisone injections and exercises before opting for surgery. My husband had heel spurs, and - with continuous use of orthotics - he has gotten to the point where they are no longer a problem. He swears by his Birkenstock sandals - he practically lives in them now. I hope your foot pain gets better. I truly understand what you are going through.
