I have worked in the child protective field for 22 years and see many children who's lives have been impacted by parents who have NO emotional intelligence. Our foster systems are filled with the end results. Some of these children have witnessed devastating emotional exchanges and domestic violence between their parents, and are no longer willing to try on any thing new. Usually they have major symptoms of have PTSD, undiagnosed. The state of NY is pushing a new DSS visitation initiative. It is all about redirecting the parent to meet the child's needs, during supervised foster care visits, something a parent with very little emotional intelligence has been able to do in the past, due to their own emotional abuse by their parents. Teaching Emotional Intelligence to these parents could have a transformational impact on their children, and for generations to come! |
