Dr. Fatum,
I'm enjoying your articles about emotional intelligence. I've worked with children most of my professional life, and indeed, especially in residential care with boys ages 11-15, one could see the difference this kind of approach could make. I hope that you will bring your work both to children who are already "on the rocks" in our care system and to children at the very earliest ages to help them navigate through life. Too many of our children do not have the skills that they need to learn and develop in a joyful, curious, exploration that we would want for them! Keep up your work, and I look forward to reading more about it!
By the way, I work in higher education now, and I see the same thing with college students. Those students who have acquired these skills are by far the most effective as young adults in their critical thinking, communicating, and working together with other people. |
