Dr. Zuckerman,
Sorry if I seemed to come down heavy on MIS. I know that you have had success with MIS and I'm not attacking you. In Philadelphia, MIS was a true epidemic and patients were being crippled. Obviously, you mentioned a doctor that you think highly of in Philadelphia, and I will respect him enough not to repeat his name or the name of his daughter. I will state that I've seen many of the patients from that practice and have performed many surgeries on those patients to revise failed cases. I know nothing of his personality, all I can judge are the feet that walk into my office, and the ones I've seen haven't been pretty. So my opinion will definitely differ with you on that one! I do consider myself very open minded and I was exposed to MIS in my training through various doctors. While in Chicago I watched Dr. Kessler and while in Philadelphia I've seen many others and philosophically I was never comfortable placing a blade where I couldn't see it. It broke every rule I was ever taught in surgery. Endoscopic/arthroscopic surgery is different, because the blade is visualized on a monitor. To this day I will not place a blade in a patient in an area that I can not visualize. That's just the way I practice surgery. I guess that's why there's chocolate and vanilla.
