The surgery itself is rarely the "hard part" in regard to a serious injury. Surgery, at best, can attempt to put back together the broken parts of the body, but as with Humpty-Dumpty, that cannot always be accomplished, and much of the extent and timing of recovery is often a function of the dedication and hard work of the patient toward rehabilitation. THAT is most always the hard part.
If you are in the hands of a top-notch surgeon, as you state, I think he/she would be the best source of knowledgeable answer to your questions regarding prognosis and time tables for recovery, as he/she knows the details of your case and should be able to provide better guesses based on that knowledge. But I really do not understand how any surgeon can take on a case, perform the surgery and not be on top of the rehab issues, even if he/she does not personally provide those services.
Certainly, if your PT has inadequate as you have stated, it's time to find a PT who is more knowledgeable.
As far as orthotics are concerned, they are accommodative and not curative modalities, but as I do not know the diagnosis for which they were prescribed, I cannot even opine as to their appropriateness now.
Finally, I would strongly advise that you take with a grain of salt any prognoses and/or time lines from either doctors who do not intimately know your status or lay persons who will relate only their individual and solitary experience. |
