AJ . . No one can really answer your question with any degree of confidence without full knowledge of your complete case. There are too many variables, such as, what exactly was the pre-operative condition, was the surgery skillfully done, was the correct procedure chosen, has something untoward occurred that is essentially not the fault of the surgeon even if the procedure were skillfully done?
Any surgery ALWAYS involves risk. The outcomes of surgeries fall into one of four categories. The problem gets better, gets worse, stays the same or new problems arise. Surgery rarely repairs any problem to original factory specs, but is intended to resolve or mitigate a problem by an essentially unnatural intervention in which function or deformity or pain is hopefully made better. But this process sometimes results in unintended consequences. One of the most import jobs of a skilled surgeon is in his/her ability to deal with those unintended consequences. Any surgeon that has never had a bad result is either lying or has done very few procedures. Any surgeon worth his salt will ask for help, advice and the consultation of others when he has reached the end of his abilities. It is NOT an insult to your doctor to ask for another opinion and if he takes it as such, think less of him for it. |
