I certainly don't have anything against the podiatrists in the hospital. I have found that most podiatrists in my hospital are very knowledgeable and have the same malpractice statistics as the rest of the surgical specialties. They do what they have to do to survive. Its a shame, in my opinion that the rest of the medical professions don't respect them. They will be very polite with the staff podiatrists but when the doctors get together amongst themselves, you should only know the disparaging things they say about podiatrists, especially the orthopedic surgeons. I thought it was really bad for the chiropractors but they dont compare to things said about the podiatrists. Turf war and all.
I went to the orthopedic surgeons and the podiatrists in my hospital for opinions. They all spoke with one voice. It was scary. Screws, pins 4 inch long incisions etc. When I spoke to people who had surgery in an office setting, I was recommended to go and see the doctors who I finally went with. They were different. They offered something that orthopedics couldn't offer. It was like a breath of fresh air. I really was happy to see that podiatrists could do something orthopedic surgeons couldnt do. They were no longer "orthopedic wannabe's" ( a term I heard used in converstion). They finally had something to offer that no other profession could do. Every doctor in the hospital I told about this (orthopedic and podiatric) warned me not to do it. But every patient of this doctor that I spoke to was doing great after the surgery and their feet looked great. The patients that really made up my mind were the ones that had surgery in the hospital on one foot and the other foot using minimally invasive percutaneous surgery. The contrasts were simply amazing. The foot done in the hospital had long, ugly scars with toes that looked like sticks, straight as an arrow. The feet done via minimally invasive percutaneous surgery showed no scars at all even though more work was done on the in office feet. Also, they just looked great. It was after speaking with them that I decided to have my surgery done in the office using minimally invasive percutaneous surgery. |
