You're certainly not alone Kim. Plantar fasciitis is a relatively common condition.

A recent study published this year showed that just over 1 million United States patient visits to primary care physicians and hospital outpatient clinics are for the treatment and diganosis of plantar fasciiits. This did not include podiatrists.

The American Podiatric Medical Association in a survey of its members found plantar fasciitis to be the most common foot condition treated by podiatrists.

Reasonably common then :)

Risk factors identified to be associated with the condition in studies include reduced ankle range of motion, obesity and standing for long periods. The stretching exercises you have already been performing and night splints hopefully were trying to increase ankle range of motion by stretching the calf muscle.

Your doctor and podiatrist appear to have almost exhausted most of the non-surgical treatments.

Surgery is only recommended for patients who have persistent, severe symptoms despite nonsurgical intervention for at least 6 to 12 months. I'm afraid it looks like you fall into this group :(
