A good flush is 5 min per motor with the engine off, with good water pressure if you do it regularly...honestly, Merc engineers giggle at how anal some people get with this flushing thing - they really recommend the flush port with the engine off - no more.....

Another thing...it's really only necessary if you don't use the boat often. It's never needed if you are not in salt and are not picking up silt and such. I have a friend in Lake Mich that has 275's and he has never flushed....If you are an occaisional user, say every 3 weeks - yes, you should flush...but if you use your boat 2 -3 times a week like we do down here in fla, flushing really is optional...I have seen with my own eyes engines torn down that were used often with NEVER a flush and they were perfectly fine....

Using muffs are dangerous, they need to be positioned correctly, water pressure is critical and monitored 100% - they slip off while you do something else and you are at least looking at impeller damage...that's why you don't find muff directions in the owner's manual.

Please trust me...use the flush port with engine off and if you need to run on land, use the trash can method...
