Regarding the static flush, If you do it shortly after the engine has been run there is a chance the thermostat will be open and this would provide a more thorough flush.
At any rate, flushing the powerhead statically with fresh water after salt water exposure is certainly better than doing nothing. Hosing down the EXTERIOR may not be required, but it too is a GOOD thing to do if you want to keep up appearances. :)
