You should first insist that your doctor perform the surgery in his office. Modern foot surgery should only be performed in the office and under local anesthesia. If you have an anxiety problem have the doctor give you 5-10mg of Valium pre-op, but only if you're not driving yourself home from the office. You can also ask if he'll use Marcaine as the anesthetic. This drug will keep the surgical site sleeping for 8-10 hours. You'll feel a little burning, pinching, stinging sensation during the injections but nothing you can not handle. You can ask for Vicodin post-op. The doctor will probably give you an antibiotic like Keflex along with Prednisone 5mg post-op to control swelling. You'll be fine. |
