Photo Tip of the week:

I am back from Turks & Caicos trip and realized a couple of things after using my new system. One is something I have known for a long time and have had it happen before. The inevitable flood! I was reminded why I buy flood insurance every year. There are only two types of underwater camera owners, those that have and those who will again! It is important if you have expensive gear to have it insured. If you can afford it in this digital world I would suggest a back up camera and lens, unless you are satisfied not taking pictures once the dead occurs. On some live aboards you can rent some pretty good gear, but check before you go, so you know what you will do when it happens to you.

The next thing I reaffirmed my realization that my tips need to be to an audience of newer U/W Photographers. That is about 10% of the US population have been certified and of that about 10% are active divers of that 10% about 25% are interested in U/W Photography. Of that 25% around 10% are able to invest in high dollar equipment as a hobby, and the Pros for the most part are very few and far between, so the biggest segment is the 25% of the 10%! So I am going to direct my tips to those that enjoy a hobby and will never go too far beyond the basic techniques that I have been covering. If those few that need more help or more technical help need a question answered there are many chat rooms and help boards that will get very technical as they need. For those of you who need a question answered, there are no stupid questions, just wasted opportunities. So with that in mind I will address those questions on as submitted basis, but feel free to ask I am just not going to waste a lot of time speaking to a very small audience when I can help many more. What occurs is when the hobbyist reads instructions that they can’t relate to they lose interest in the subject.

I would like your impute as to the second statement and if you feel this would leave people out or if you agree?
